Navy Taps Armtec, Chemring for $225M Infrared Flare Supply IDIQ

The U.S. Navy has awarded positions to Chemring Countermeasures and Armtec Countermeasures on a $225 million multiple-award contract to manufacture MJU-61A/B, a type of aircraft flare designed to deflect infrared missile threats.

The firm-fixed-price, indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract has a five-year ordering period that will run through August 2027, the Defense Department said Tuesday.

Chemring will receive $9.8 million from U.S. Air Force ammunition procurement funds under an initial delivery order, while Armtec will initially get $5.9 million in USAF and foreign military sales funds.

The FMS customers are Korea, Denmark, Japan, Netherlands and Italy.

Naval Supply Systems Command Weapon Systems Support is the contracting activity for the fully competitive requirement.
