Navy Awards 8 Spots on $4B Follow-On CANES Shipboard Network Contract

The U.S. Navy has awarded eight companies positions on a potential 10-year, $4.1 billion follow-on contract to provide production units, software, laboratory equipment, spares and system components for surface, shore and submarine platforms in support of the service branch’s Consolidated Afloat Networks and Enterprise Services program.

CANES is the Navy’s program of record that seeks to consolidate and replace the service’s existing afloat networks to provide warfighters with the needed infrastructure for systems, applications and services to gain advantage in the tactical cyber warfare domain, the Department of Defense said Friday.

The CANES program comes with several objectives, such as providing a secure afloat network for naval and joint operations, advancing the use of a common computing environment and mature cross domain technologies to reduce the number of afloat networks and reducing the infrastructure footprint and related training, logistics and sustainment costs.

Naval Information Warfare Systems Command in San Diego received 10 offers for the multiple-award, indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract and will use the service’s other procurement funds upon award of initial delivery orders.

Work will occur in Alabama, California, Florida, Massachusetts, Mississippi, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, South Carolina and Virginia through December 2032.

In February, the Navy issued a request for proposals as part of a full and open competition for the CANES shipboard network procurement effort.
