NASA Issues Draft RFP for Potential $488M Safety & Mission Assurance Services II Contract

NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center has started soliciting comments on a draft request for proposals for the second iteration of the Safety and Mission Assurance Services contract.

According to a presolicitation notice published Wednesday, the potential eight-year, $488 million SMAS II contract includes system safety, software assurance, reliability and maintainability, quality engineering, industrial safety program, independent assessment, quality assurance and pressure systems.

Questions and feedback on the draft solicitation are due Oct. 4.

The space agency plans to compete the single-award SMAS II indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract as a small business set-aside program and expects to award the contract by Sept. 17, 2025.

The proposed contract will support MSFC’s requirements as well as those of the Kennedy Space Center, Michoud Assembly Facility, Stennis Space Center and other NASA centers.

NASA will hold a virtual industry day on Sept. 25 to brief potential offerors on the draft RFP.

The agency anticipates the release of the final RFP on or about Nov. 22 and intends to accept proposals through Jan. 6.
