L-3 Communications (NYSE: LLL) has acquired pilot and aircraft maintenance technician training company Aerosim for an undisclosed sum in a push to complement L-3’s airline crew training, resourcing and simulation offerings.
New York City-based L-3 said Tuesday it will integrate Aerosim into the defense technology contractor’s commercial training solutions division and change the newly acquired business’ name to L-3 Aerosim-CTC.
Aerosim — which L-3 forecasts to generate $50 million in 2017 sales — maintains a technologies business in Burnsville, Minnesota and a flight academy in Sanford, Florida.
L-3 chairman and CEO Michael Strianese said the company made the acquisition as part of efforts to grow its customized training portfolio and help address a global demand for trained pilots.
The CTS division is part of L-3’s electronic systems business segment and provides ab initio and airline training as well as high-fidelity simulation platforms for pilots and maintenance technicians.
