The company said Thursday the contract with the Office of Naval Research covers mission simulation, algorithm research and development, objective planning, system-level performance assessments, model development and at-sea demonstrations to provide improved autonomy capabilities for the service’s current and future unmanned underwater vehicles.
Metron said it will use its experience and knowledge in UUV simulation, object detection, mission and path planning, autonomous behaviors and tracking and data fusion to support ONR under the $7.8 million contract.
“We are honored to have been awarded this contract to advance innovation for critical defense technologies used by the U.S. Navy,” said Christine Judd, vice president of Metron’s unmanned systems division.
Judd added that Metron has played a key role in the development and adoption of extra-large and large displacement UUVs across the defense and maritime sectors.
