Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT) has received a $344 million contract from the Federal Aviation Administration to provide a system to support flight plan exchanges between air traffic controllers.
The FAA said Wednesday the Terminal Flight Data Manager will work to provide electronic flight strips instead of paper strips to aid real-time sharing of digital flight plans among air traffic controllers, aircraft operators and airports.
Lockheed will design TFDM to provide users information on traffic volume changes, weather conditions and other situations to support tactical decision-making functions among controllers.
TFDM will work to manage flight arrivals and departures as well as aircraft traffic flow on the ground using predictive modeling tools, the FAA added.
