Beavers previously held the position of principal deputy CIO at the Pentagon. Before becoming part of the office of the CIO, she served as the director of intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance enterprise capabilities within the Office of the Undersecretary of Defense for Intelligence & Security.
Beavers takes on the position previously held by fellow 2024 Wash100 awardee John Sherman, whose departure from the DOD was announced in early June. Sherman had served as DOD CIO since 2021 and is, thus far, the only CIO confirmed by the Senate during the Biden administration.
Sherman is set to become the next dean of the Bush School of Government and Public Service at Texas A&M University. He will take on the new role in August.
