L3Harris to Update GEODSS Sensors Under Potential $119M Space Force Contract

The U.S. Space Force has awarded L3Harris Technologies (NYSE: LHX) a $119.2M contract modification to support modernization of the Ground-Based Electro-Optical Deep Space Surveillance system used to monitor geostationary communication satellites and other manmade objects in orbit.

L3Harris will update or procure 15 GEODSS sensor towers, build ground-based optical sensors in the Pacific and European regions and provide additional enclosure for the system currently installed at White Sands Missile Range, the Department of Defense said Monday.

DoD noted the contract has a cumulative face value of $218.2M

USSF's Space and Missile Systems Center will obligate $12M at the time of award and expects the company to complete services in June 2024.

The company received the modification nearly seven months after the service branch awarded a 10-year, $1.2B Maintenance Of Space Situational Awareness Integrated Capabilities contract.
