L3Harris Technologies (NYSE: LHX) will produce 4,343 units of handheld, manpack and small form fit radios for the U.S. Army under a purchase order worth $196 million.
The service branch placed the order under a potential 10-year, $12.7 billion Joint Tactical Radio System contract awarded to Harris, now L3Harris, and two other vendors in 2016, Senate Majority Leader Charles Schumer’s office said Tuesday.
“This $196 million contract will support good-paying jobs here in Rochester, support our troops and give a boost to the entire Finger Lakes economy,” said Schumer.
Samir Mehta, president of L3Harris’ communication systems business, said the AN/PRC-158 Manpack radio offers military airborne and ground crews the capability to communicate critical information.
The company’s workforce in Rochester, New York, will produce the HMS devices for the Army.
