L3Harris Technologies (NYSE: LHX) has formed an innovation accelerator to pursue the development of new systems intended to help domestic and international defense clients address near-peer threats.
The Agile Development Group is composed of 2,500 engineers, technicians, operations professionals and program managers that will focus on developing sensors, unmanned platforms, weapons systems and multimission technologies, L3Harris said Tuesday.
“U.S. national security leadership has been emphatic – the development and acquisition paradigm must adapt to deliver advanced, responsive capabilities more quickly,” said Christopher Kubasik, vice chair and CEO at L3Harris.
“Our company strategy aligns with that emphasis – industry needs to think and act differently to deliver capabilities to support integrated deterrence and to build enduring advantages, and our ADG will do just that,” added Kubasik, a three-time Wash100 awardee.
The ADG will adopt digital engineering approach to development, enter into strategic partnerships to advance innovation and mature critical technologies through an internal investment fund.
The fiscal year 2023 defense budget request aligns with the group’s focus areas. Kubasik said the nearly 10 percent increase in the budget’s research, development, test and evaluation funds will drive technology development initiatives in 2023 and the company is ready to work with DOD to advance such efforts.
L3Harris expects the accelerator group to expand with additional resources and personnel and ramp up collaboration through partnerships and investments.
