TYSONS CORNER, VA, November 9, 2020 — Kratos Defense & Security Solutions (Nasdaq: KTOS) rolled out a software offering that works to virtualize ground networking systems designed for satellite operations, ExecutiveBiz reported Oct. 21.
The company said Oct. 20 its OpenSpace platform is comprised of virtual network functions, a controller, a unified physical and virtual manager and digitizers.
“Going back to the very early days of space missions, satellites and their ground systems were designed from scratch to work together in tandem using custom hardware and software,” said Phil Carrai, president of Kratos’ space, training and cybersecurity division.
“Over time those ties have loosened as both satellite and network technologies have evolved … however the ground and the satellite have not been able to operate fully independently until now with OpenSpace.”
