San Francisco-based analytics company Kinetica has secured a potential five-year, $100 million contract from the U.S. Air Force to create a repository of intelligence data from multiple sensor feeds for the North American Aerospace Defense Command and U.S. North Command.
Kinetica said Tuesday it will provide a cloud-based streaming data warehouse to support the two commands' Pathfinder initiative of helping defense operators visualize operations across land, air, sea, space and cyber domains.
The system is intended to operate in Amazon Web Services’ GovCloud environment and process large amounts of data with graphics processing units from Intel (Nasdaq: INTC) and Nvidia (Nasdaq: NVDA).
Booz Allen Hamilton (NYSE: BAH) will support Kinetica on the database project to help military personnel collect sensor-based airborne objects, analyze information and gain situational awareness.
The contract with USAF will build on the company's previous prototyping work with the Department of Defense, NORAD, USNORTHCOM and the Defense Innovation Unit.
Kinetica's database platform is based on an open architecture framework that applies machine learning for anomaly detection functions while allowing third-party entities to develop applications and analytics tools.
