Ken Peterman, a four-decade defense industry veteran, succeeded Fred Kornberg as chairman of the board of directors at Melville, New York-based Comtech Telecommunications Corp. (Nasdaq: CMTL).
Peterman was appointed to the chairman post after serving as an independent director for the past two months, the communications equipment provider said Monday.
He previously served as president of the government systems unit at ViaSat (Nasdaq: VSAT) and ran his own executive advisory services company, The SpyGlass Group.
His professional experience has included leadership positions at ITT/Exelis, Rockwell Collins and the legacy Raytheon company.
Comtech added that it intends to cut the number of its board members to eight, including seven independent directors, immediately before the company holds its annual shareholder meeting.
