HII said Childs will manage and oversee quality programs and ship design, engineering, integrated logistics support and planning yard engineering in her new role, effective Jan. 6.
The former U.S. Navy surface warfare officer has been with HII Ingalls Shipbuilding for 17 years, most recently serving as director of technical and design engineering. Childs was responsible for overseeing the design, construction and testing of several naval ships and other vessels.
She is a graduate of Mississippi Gulf Coast Chamber of Commerce’s Leadership Gulf Coast program and has a bachelor’s degree in physics from the U.S. Naval Academy and a master’s in business administration from the University of North Florida.
Childs will succeed Brian Blanchette, incoming vice president of HII and president of Ingalls Shipbuilding.
