TYSONS CORNER, VA, April 11, 2018 Iridium Communications (NASDAQ: IRDM) targets May 19 to launch the Iridium-6 rideshare mission aboard SpaceXs Falcon 9 rocket from Vandenberg Air Force Base in California, ExecutiveBiz reported Tuesday.
Iridium said Monday the mission is the sixth Iridium NEXT launch overall and would increase the total number of Iridium NEXT satellites in orbit to 55 as part of a potential $3 billion program to replace the company’s existing global constellation of communications satellites in 2018.
The planned launch will deliver into orbit five Iridium NEXT satellites and two satellites as part of the Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment Follow-On mission of NASA and GFZ German Research Center for Geosciences.
