IMT Defense was awarded a $162.7 million contract from the U.S. Army for the manufacturing and delivery of M1128 boosted artillery rounds and Doug Bush, assistant secretary of the Army for acquisition, logistics and technology and a 2023 Wash100 Award recipient, said the multiyear deal “will allow for additional delivery orders,” National Defense reported Monday.
IMT Defense’s contract spans fiscal years 2023 to 2027. The award is the first of four multiyear contracts the service branch plans to use to ramp up production of 155mm munition, which will cover supplies for Ukraine military aid and U.S. stockpiles.
“We did it that way because we’re getting replenishment dollars to replace what we sent to Ukraine, and we want to be able to use this multiyear contract for a good portion of that,” said Bush during a media roundtable.
The Army expects to hit a monthly artillery production rate of 80,000 to 85,000 rounds by FY 2025– a massive jump from the current rate of 24,000 rounds per month.
According to Bush, the other three contracts are to be executed this year, “based on language we received for fiscal year [2023].”
“We will be able to meet the demand to both support Ukraine and keep the U.S. Army ready. And I believe in doing this well and showing we can do it, create a deterrent value for anyone else who might think about taking on the United States.”
