TYSONS CORNER, VA, October 15, 2018 Huntington Ingalls Industries (NYSE: HII) is collaborating with the Naval Sea Systems Command to install a prototype 3D-printed piping assembly on the USS Harry S. Truman aircraft carrier by early 2019 for a yearlong test period that aims to certify the component, ExecutiveBiz reported Friday.
The company said Thursday its Newport News Shipbuilding division will lead the project, which is part of a larger effort to adopt additive manufacturing techniques to produce metal parts for the U.S. Navy‘s nuclear-powered vessels.
