The House on Tuesday voted 295-125 to pass a bill that would authorize $740B in defense budget for fiscal year 2021, The Wall Street Journal reported.
The FY 2021 National Defense Authorization Act would fund national security programs of the Department of Energy and direct the Department of Defense to implement a 3 percent pay increase for warfighters, finance upgrades to military houses and earmark $1B for COVID-19 pandemic response efforts.
The NDAA includes a provision that would require DoD to change the names of military bases named for Confederacy leaders within a year and ban the Confederate flag from being displayed on military installations.
The Senate is expected to approve later this week its version of the measure, which includes a language proposed by Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) that would direct DoD to change the names of installations within three years.
