HII Books $240M Contract for Advance Work on Navy's 3rd Flight II Amphibious Ship

HII’s (NYSE: HII) Ingalls Shipbuilding division has secured a $240 million contract to obtain materials and begin construction efforts for the U.S. Navy’s future LPD-32 amphibious transport dock.

LPD-32 will become the third LPD-17 Flight II class ship and the 16th San Antonio-class vessel constructed at the Ingalls Shipbuilding facility, the company said Thursday.

“The funds from this contract will be used to purchase long-lead time material and major equipment across a supplier network of nearly 400 companies in 30 states,” said Kari Wilkinson, president of Ingalls Shipbuilding.

HII noted the next-generation amphibious ship will replace the service branch’s LSD 41 and LSD 49 classes of dock landing ships.

The Navy has received a dozen San Antonio-class ships from Ingalls Shipbuilding and two more are under at the shipyard, including the LPD 29 and LPD 30.

Efforts to fabricate LPD 31, the second Flight II amphibious vessel, are scheduled to commence in late 2022 as part of a seven-year, $1.51B contract modification awarded in April 2020.
