“2020 was a significant year for HII in the unmanned systems industry, and this acquisition is the perfect complement to our existing portfolio and strategic partnerships,” Andy Green, an executive vice president and president of HII Technical Solutions and a two-time Wash100 award winner, said in a statement published Monday.
HII closed the transaction on Dec. 31 and has begun integrating approximately 50 SIS employees into the unmanned systems business group of HII Technical Solutions division.
Sam Lewis, president and chief operating officer of SIS, will oversee the company’s efforts related to unmanned surface vessels and report to Duane Fotheringham, president of HII Technical Solutions’ unmanned systems business group.
SIS provides sensor fusion, perception, multivehicle collaborative autonomy and unmanned systems that have been deployed on 23 vessel types for over 6K hours and have supported several demonstrations and projects advancing autonomy in unmanned platforms used in maritime, air and ground domains. SIS platforms have been in use across the Department of Defense supporting intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, mine clearance, payload delivery and other missions.
