Seven companies have been awarded contracts worth more than $1.4B combined by the Department of Health and Human Services to supply ventilators to the Strategic National Stockpile.
HHS said Monday it aims to add 29,510 mechanical ventilation machines to the stockpile by June 1 and obtain 137,431 systems by the end of the year.
Alex Azar, secretary of the HHS, said the recent awards come in response to President Trump’s call to industry for the rapid production of ventilators under the Defense Production Act.
He added that the department and the Federal Emergency Management Agency have deployed ventilators from the stockpile to ensure the availability of such medical equipment in New York and other states.
Deliveries are slated to occur through the spring and summer.
The awardees and contract details are as follows:
General Electric – $64.1M for 2,410 ventilators
Hamilton – $552M for 14,115 ventilators
Hill-Rom – $20.1M for 3,400 ventilators
Medtronic – $9.1M for 1,056 ventilators
ResMed – $32M for 2,550 ventilators
Vyaire – $407.9M 22,000 ventilators
Zoll – $350.1M for 18,900 ventilators
HHS also issued ventilator production contracts to Philips and General Motors earlier this week, with both awards falling under the DPA.
