Harper Construction has won a potential $131.5 million contract from the U.S. Navy to design and build a maintenance hangar and expand a flight line apron for F-35 aircraft that will be stationed at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar in San Diego.
The Defense Departmentsaid Wednesday the company will construct the aircraft maintenance hangar with a special foundation, a secure access program facility, elevators and an overhead bridge crane.
DoD added the project also covers mechanical and electrical utilities, landscaping, irrigation, telecommunications, drainage, emergency generators, parking space and lighting, as well as site improvement and preparation support services.
The firm-fixed-price contract includes eight options and the service branch obligated nearly $128 million in fiscal 2017 military construction funds at the time of award.
Harper is expected to finish the project in January 2020.
The Naval Facilities Engineering Command received seven proposals for the contract through a competitive solicitation on service branch’s Electronic Commerce Online website.
