General Dynamics (NYSE: GD) has been awarded a seven-year, $440 million contract to update the fire control systems installed in the U.S. Navy and U.K. navy’s nuclear ballistic missile submarines.
General Dynamics Mission Systems will work to install fire control subsystem and repair the navigation and launch subsystems as part of the modernization work, General Dynamics said Tuesday.
The company will also build the fire control system for the Navy’s Ohio Replacement submarine and the U.K. navy’s Successor-class ballistic missile submarine under the contract.
Carlo Zaffanella, vice president and general manager of General Dynamics Mission Systems’ maritime and strategic systems business, said the company has supported the Navy’s strategic deterrence efforts for nearly 60 years.
The contract is a follow-on award to a previous contract the company received in December 2014.
