TYSONS CORNER, VA, Sept. 28, 2016 General Atomics has developed a mechanical arm designed to recover small unmanned aircraft systems in mid-flight, ExecutiveBiz reported Tuesday.
Breaking Defense reported Monday that General Atomics created the mechanism as part of the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency‘s Gremlins program that seeks to explore UAS launch-and-recovery techniques.
The company also designed an alternative system to recover drones with a reel-in-reel-out mechanism similar to the method used during military aircraft refueling missions, Chris Pehrson, General Atomics vice president for strategic development, told Breaking Defense in an interview.
