GDIT to Support CBP’s Surveillance Tower System Modernization Effort

A General Dynamics (NYSE: GD) business unit has won a position on a potential 14-year, $1.8 billion contract to support the expansion and modernization of the U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s surveillance tower systems.

General Dynamics Information Technology said Monday it will work with General Dyamics’ mission systems business to modernize CBP’s Consolidated Tower and Surveillance Equipment and update sensing and wireless networking systems under the indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract awarded in September.

The CTSE system consists of relocatable and fixed sensor towers, power and communications equipment that CBP uses to conduct surveillance operations along the country’s southern and northern borders.

GDIT is establishing an innovation laboratory to facilitate collaboration with CBP and commercial partners in building prototypes and testing new capabilities. The company is also advancing the use of 5G Digital Accelerators and artificial intelligence to develop autonomous platforms designed to help Border Patrol agents improve safety and situational awareness.

Advanced Technology Systems Co. and Elbit Systems of America are the other two awardees on the IDIQ contract awarded in support of the Integrated Surveillance Towers program, which aims to acquire about 277 new surveillance towers in 53 areas of responsibility and upgrade approximately 191 legacy towers in 31 separate AoRs.
