Amy Gilliland, president of General Dynamics’ (NYSE: GD) information technology business and a six-time recipient of the Wash100 award, is taking pride in the positive impact of the unit’s mental health awareness campaign, “How are you, really?”
Gilliland shared her perspective on the initiative in a Virginia 500 spotlight conversation with the Virginia Business magazine.
She led the campaign’s launch in 2021 to destigmatize mental health consultations particularly in their workforce, more than 25 percent of which are veterans, and noted a significant increase in the number of GDIT employees who sought mental health counseling since GDIT started the initiative.
In the interview, she stressed the importance of workforce well-being and resilience in an organization’s mission-readiness for customers.
“Imagine our resiliency as a nation if we used our collective platforms and technologies to proactively tackle mental health issues. Everyone is struggling with something, and I believe in leading with compassion,” Gilliland added.
