John Owens
John Owens, formerly chief information officer at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, has joined CGIs (NYSE: GIB) federal business as vice president of solution development group within the emerging technologies practice.
Owens will help lead the development of novel technology platforms that work to help federal agencies implement their strategies and meet mission requirements, CGI said Wednesday.
CGI Federals solution development group oversees the development of the companys Unify360, Momentum and other intellectual property tech offerings.
Subramanyam Surabhi, VP of consulting services and ETP head at CGI, said Owens commitment to innovation would help the company further support federal clients.
Owens spent nine years at USPTO and served as director of systems development and maintenance before he assumed the CIO role in 2008.
He worked at online service provider AOL for 13 years and held leadership roles such as senior technical director, technical manager and principle software engineer.
He also held software engineering posts at E-Systems and General Electrics (NYSE: GE) aerospace business.
