Roberts has extensive submarine experience, having served as a nuclear submarine officer in the U.S. Navy for more than 17 years.
He was captain of the USS Dallas, a Los Angeles-class nuclear-powered attack submarine from March 2007 to August 2009, and deputy commander of the Navy Commander, Submarine Squadron Two, where he helped oversee and five nuclear-powered submarine crews.
Roberts also held leadership roles at the Undersea Warfighting Development Center, Submarine Learning Center and Naval Submarine School.
