Robert Day, a retired U.S. Coast Guard rear admiral and former USCG chief information officer, has been appointed by Blackberry (Nasdaq: BBRY) to manage the mobile device maker’s new federal Cybersecurity Operations Center and Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program product initiatives.
Day is a federal information technology and cybersecurity veteran who has held senior staff and command roles within the Coast Guard such as head of the agency’s cyber command, Blackberry said Thursday.
He has served as an advisory board member for Blackberry’s AtHoc division and independent consultant across the technology industry since his retirement from the Coast Guard in 2014.
“[Day’s] knowledge of cybersecurity at the strategic and operations levels within military and civilian agency environments will help us develop and provide new FedRAMP certified cloud deployments of our products, ” said Iain Kennedy, Blackberry chief information officer.
CSOC will work to provide monitoring, compliance reporting and incident response services to clients and achieve FedRAMP and agency-component Authority to Operate certifications for the company’s products.
