Faryar Shirzad, most recently global co-head of the office of government affairs at Goldman Sachs (NYSE: GS), has joined Coinbase Global (Nasdaq: COIN) as chief policy officer.
He will engage with regulators, lawmakers and other policymakers to address issues surrounding the cryptoeconomy and realize its full potential, Coinbase said Monday.
Shirzad spent 15 years at Goldman Sachs, where played a role in overseeing the financial services company’s government relations and public policy strategy.
Prior to Goldman Sachs, he held several positions in the federal government, including deputy national security adviser for international economic affairs at the White House National Security Council, assistant secretary for import administration at the Department of Commerce and international trade counsel to the Senate Finance Committee.
He is a life member of the Council on Foreign Relations and the 2010 Ellis Island Medal of Honor recipient.
