The Defense Innovation Unit awarded 90 prototype other transaction contracts to commercial companies and transitioned 10 commercial technology platforms to Department of Defense users in fiscal year 2023, bringing DIU’s cumulative transition rate to 51 percent.
According to DIU’s annual report, the number of awarded prototype OT contracts reflects an increase of 11 percent from fiscal year 2022, when DIU awarded 81 OT contracts.
In FY 2023, DOD’s innovation arm issued 33 solicitations for commercial platforms and received 1,768 proposals from offerors, up 8 percent from the previous fiscal year.
The agency awarded a total of $502.2 million in prototype OT contracts and took an average of 197 days to award a prototype contract in FY 2023.
Since FY 2016, DIU has awarded 450 prototype contracts, managed the transition of 62 commercial platforms to DOD users and recorded $5.5 billion in contract awards.
