He will oversee a team of about 400 employees at several sites in the U.S. and Sweden as head of Maxar’s Earth intelligence product organization and help drive strategy for user experience and product roadmap to advance growth across government and commercial technology clients, Maxar said Tuesday.
Nord will succeed Jeff Culwell, who has been with Maxar for more than two decades and head of the Earth intelligence product organization since 2019. Culwell will assume a new role within the chief technology office to focus on internal research and development and strategic engineering programs.
Maxar CEO Dan Jablonsky said Nord’s understanding and track record with digital product lines will help the company as it works to scale its Earth intelligence product offerings in new markets.
Nord will join Maxar from Amazon (Nasdaq: AMZN), where he served as general manager for kids and family’s mobile, content and international divisions. Before Amazon, he worked at Electronic Arts (Nasdaq: EA) as head of product management for mobile and VR and as a studio GM.
Nord said Maxar’s 30 cm and 15 cm HD WorldView satellite data, georegistration IP and 3D capabilities enable artificial intelligence and machine learning algorithms to come up with derivative products for various applications aimed at addressing customers’ needs. He added that he is excited to build up the business with new and existing platforms for intelligence, defense and tech clients.
