Cyber Apex Solutions has received a potential five-year, $70 million contract from the Department of Homeland Security to conduct applied research on cyber defense technology prototypes designed to protect critical infrastructure from cyber attacks.
Cyber Apex will receive funds from DHS science and technology directorate to test, evaluate and transition cyber tech prototypes under the other transaction agreement contract, DHS said Wednesday.
The company will also establish a consortium of companies, academics and researchers in which S&T will enter into individual project agreements to initially develop cyber defense platforms for the financial services sector under the Next Generation Cyber Infrastructure Apex program.
The NGCI Apex initiative seeks to help DHS S&T, Treasury Department and financial services firms develop cybersecurity tools for the financial sector and then adapt such platforms for use in government, communications and energy critical infrastructure.
The program aims to deliver cyber capabilities to financial enterprises across the areas of insider threats, malware detection, software assurance, dynamic defense and network characterization.
Cyber Apex Solutions in essence will be acting as a clearinghouse for cyber technologies by working with consortium members to modify, test and evaluate their products capabilities against the needs and requirements provided by the [Cyber Apex Review Team] membership, said Eric Harder, NGCI Apex program manager.
CART will be composed of representatives from DHS S&T, Treasury and chief information security officers from financial institutions.
