Robert Costello, chief information officer of the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, will keynote a Feb. 23 virtual forum hosted by Executive Mosaic’s flagship Government Contracting Wire to overview his work at CISA and the agency’s role in federal data security.
Costello assumed the CIO post in August 2021 and oversees CISA’s technology development, deployment, security and support functions. The Air Force veteran previously served as public sector civilian strategic adviser at World Wide Technology and held a more than 13-year career at the Department of Homeland Security’s Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Customs and Border Protection.
On the heels of Log4J vulnerability exploitation, CISA worked with its federal and industry partners on the Joint Cyber Defense Collaborative to provide guidance on how organizations should protect critical systems from threat actors that targeted Apache’s logging software library.
Costello told Federal News Network in a January interview that organizations should examine the software supply chain, individual systems, connected devices, existing vectors, security posture and mitigation approaches.
“We absolutely encourage everyone to start moving to a zero trust model,” the CISA CIO said.
His keynote address to GovCon Wire’s “Information Security and Innovation Forum” will overview efforts at the agency to drive technology culture and advancement for government data protection.
