Merrick Garland, a more than two-decade veteran of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit, has emerged as President-elect Joe Biden's pick to be the next U.S. attorney general, Politico reported Wednesday.
Garland most recently served as the DC Circuit chief judge and previously received a nomination to serve in the U.S. Supreme Court in 2016 under the Obama administration.
His career at the Department of Justice has included time as deputy assistant attorney general for the criminal division and as principal associate deputy attorney general.
The report noted Biden also intends to nominate Lisa Monaco, former assistant to the president for homeland security and counterterrorism, as deputy attorney general.
Monaco previously spent 15 years at DOJ and held the chief of staff role at the FBI.
