Bharat Amin, former vice president and chief information officer at Huntington Ingalls Industries’ (NYSE: HII) Newport News Shipbuilding division, has been named executive VP and CIO of the company.
He will report directly to Mike Petters, president and CEO of HII and previous Wash100 winner, and lead the establishment of information technology, cybersecurity and other digital strategies, HII said Wednesday.
The company added Amin will manage IT governance functions across its business units.
“In today’s business environment, the importance of keeping our network communications safe cannot be underscored enough,†Petters said.
“Our business relies upon the safety and security of how and what we communicate to our customers, suppliers and other stakeholders.â€
Before he joined HII in 2014, Amin spent 16 years at BAE Systems in various roles such as VP and CIO within the land and armaments business.
He worked for household appliance manufacturer Electrolux North America earlier in his career.
