TYSONS CORNER, VA, March 27, 2018 The British defense ministry has awarded a $227.5 million contract to BAE Systems and its partners in a move to modernize the U.K. navy Type 45 destroyers’ power and propulsion systems, ExecutiveBiz reported Monday.
The defense ministry said Wednesday BAE Systems, working in collaboration with BMT Defense Services and Cammell Laird under the Power Improvement Project contract, will integrate three larger generators in place of the two existing units on each ship to provide propulsion.
PIP also covers technical system design and integration, equipment supply and physical installation of the generators into all six Type 45 destroyers.
