BAE Systems‘ land and armaments business has received a five-year, $600.2 million contract to provide support to the U.S. Army’s next generation of armored vehicles meant for integration with the Armored Brigade Combat Team in the future.
The Armored Multi-Purpose Vehicle, along with the M113 family of vehicles that AMPV is intended to replace, will be supported by BAE Systems Land & Armaments through July 6, 2026, under the cost-plus-fixed-fee contract, the Department of Defense said Wednesday.
As a replacement to the aging M113 platforms, the AMPV will conduct operations with the M1 Abrams tank and the M2 Bradley. The new vehicle is intended to meet the service branch’s safety, mobility, reliability and interoperability requirements to ensure soldier survivability.
AMPV variants for troop transport, mission command, mortar carrier, medical evacuation and medical treatment missions are being manufactured by BAE as part of the program’s low-rate production phase.
Meanwhile, the M113, which is also covered by the Army support contract, is a Vietnam War-era family of armored tracked vehicles currently used by at least 44 countries. It is expected to continue service over the next three to four decades.
Army Contracting Command will award orders under the contract which will determine the contractor’s work locations and funding.
