Caitlin Kalinowski, head of virtual reality hardware at Facebook (Nasdaq: FB), has joined the board of directors at public safety technology provider Axon (Nasdaq: AAXN).
Her appointment brings the number of independent directors at Axon to seven, the company said Wednesday.
Since joining Facebook in 2013, the more than 14-year industry veteran has led a team that designs and engineers technology products including the Oculus line of commercial VR headsets and Facebook Bluetooth Beacons.
She previously spent more than five years at Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL), where she led the technical development of the MacBook Air line of laptops. Earlier in her career, she worked as a product design engineer for San Francisco-based computer hardware firm OQO.
Rick Smith, founder and CEO of Axon, said Kalinowskis appointment will support the companys efforts to deploy VR technology for public safety projects such as empathy-based training.
