He will succeed Darrell Mays, who has been appointed executive vice chairman of AVCT’s board of directors, and will also serve as a board member, the Atlanta-based information technology services provider said Wednesday.
Williams most recently served as president of the public sector organization at AT&T and oversaw a 4K-employee global organization that supports government and education customers.
He also concurrently managed the telecommunications firm’s FirstNet business and previously led its national group, business operations and global customer service unit.
“I have known and admired Xavier for over 20 years and have seen first-hand the significant value that he has brought to AT&T and its customers,” said Mays, adding that the appointment is part of AVCT’s strategic growth plan.
Williams has supported AT&T’s philanthropic arm, Make-A-Wish America, Pennsylvania’s State System of Higher Education Foundation and the Pittsburgh Urban League.
Publications selected him for the Top 100 Most Influential Blacks in Corporate America, Most Powerful Executives in Corporate America and Top 100 Under 50 Executive Leaders.
