The U.S. subsidiary of Astroscale Holdings, a Japanese space debris removal services provider, has agreed to acquire the assets and intellectual property of Israel-based Effective Space Solutions in a strategy to enter the satellite servicing and life extension market.
The deal comes after Astroscale announced a Series E funding round, which runs through the end of the year, and raised a total of $140M through four investment rounds to support the expansion of its space-debris mitigation portfolio, the company said Wednesday.
Astroscale formed a subsidiary that will be headquartered in Tel Aviv and tasked with exploring life-extension services and technologies to support satellites in geostationary orbit.
Ron Lopez, president and managing director of Astroscale U.S. Inc., said the company is eager to work with U.S. and allied customers as part of its entrance into the GEO satellite-servicing market.
ESS’s prior on-orbit GEO efforts include the Space Drone vehicle, which will be integrated into the Astroscale U.S.portfolio upon closing of the transaction.
