Army Issues Prototype Solicitation for Indirect Fire Protection Capability Increment 2 Program

The U.S. Army is looking for potential industry partners to build a ground-based mobile platform for intercepting cruise missiles and unmanned aircraft systems, according to a solicitation notice posted on SAM .gov.

The military service said Wednesday it intends to use other transaction authority for the development of Indirect Fire Protection Capability Increment 2 prototypes.

IFPC Increment 2 is intended to provide a 360-degree coverage area for counter-UAS and subsonic cruise missile defense missions as well as other air-based threats and rockets, artillery and mortars.

The branch wants to acquire 16 launchers and 80 deployable interceptors along with all-round-up magazines through the unrestricted prototyping effort, according to the notice.

The launcher/interceptor system is meant to operate with the Sentinel radar technology and the Integrated Battle Command System.

The Army intends for the IFPC Increment 2 platform to undergo government tests and reach combat capability status by fiscal 2023 in an effort to bridge a gap between air and missile defense, tactical and strategic forces.

Interested parties can submit offers through June 4. The service aims to issue an award by Aug. 24.
