Army Eyes RFP for Potential $8B Common Hardware Systems 6th Generation Contract

The U.S. Army plans to release in August a solicitation for a potential 10-year, $7.9 billion contract to purchase commercial information technology platforms in support of the service branch, the Department of Defense and other federal agencies.

Common Hardware Systems 6th Generation is an indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract that seeks to centralize the procurement of commercial IT products to improve commonality and interoperability among operational forces, according to a presolicitation notice published Tuesday.

Commercial IT includes commercial off-the-shelf items, components, non-developmental items, customizable sustainment strategies, continuous technology upgrades and non-personal services.

Army Contracting Command’s Aberdeen Proving Ground in Maryland plans to launch a full-and-open competition for the CHS-6 contract, which has a four-year base term and two three-year option periods.

In August 2018, General Dynamics (NYSE: GD) won the potential five-year, $3.9 billion CHS 5th Generation contract.
