Amazon’s (NYSE: AMZN) cloud computing business has purchased Wickr, a developer of end-to-end encrypted communications technology platform, for an undisclosed sum to help meet the needs of government agencies and enterprises for secure communications as they adopt a hybrid work model amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
Stephen Schmidt, vice president and chief information security officer of Amazon Web Services, announced the acquisition in a blog posted Friday.
He said AWS will integrate Wickr’s secure communications platforms with its suite of productivity and collaboration services.
“Today, public sector customers use Wickr for a diverse range of missions, from securely communicating with office-based employees to providing service members at the tactical edge with encrypted communications,” Schmidt wrote.
He added that Wickr’s communications platforms enable agencies and companies to implement security controls in order to comply with regulatory requirements.
