The U.S. Air Force will separate its fighters and bombers directorate into two program executive offices as part of a restructuring effort slated to take place this summer.
Brig. Gen. John Newberry will serve as program executive officer for bombers. He will oversee program execution and personnel for B-1 Lancer, B-52 Stratofortress and B-2 Spirit program offices and will have training and organizational responsibilities for the B-21 staff of the service’s rapid capabilities office assigned to the Air Force Life Cycle Management Center, the service said Friday.
Brig. Gen. Dale White will become PEO for fighters and advanced aircraft with oversight of program offices for A-10 Thunderbolt II, Attack Systems, F-22 Raptor, F-15 Eagle, F-16 Viper, Next-Generation Air Dominance and Skyborg aircraft. He will also organize, equip and train the F-35 personnel of the joint strike fighter program office.
The service’s tanker directorate will return to the mobility and training aircraft directorate its three program offices for tanker aircraft. The PEO for mobility and training aircraft will now include the Open Skies Treaty Aircraft Recapitalization program offices and KC-10, KC-46 and KC-135 aircraft.
“Changes to organizations are a natural part of how the acquisition community responds to defense priorities,” said Lt. Gen. Robert McMurry, AFLCMC commander. “This realignment brings two key benefits: It elevates attention on the nuclear enterprise and our Air Force Global Strike Command customer. Meanwhile, it also reflects better alignment of the preponderance of our mobility aircraft within Air Mobility Command under a single PEO.”
