The Air Force Research Laboratory has issued a broad agency announcement to seek white papers on artificial intelligence, machine learning and analytics for an embedded deep learning research program aimed at integrating autonomous systems into U.S. Air Force platforms.
AFRL said in a notice posted April 18 the service branch intends to allocate $99 million for the three-year BAA, which is meant to support projects encompassing big data processing, autonomous functionalities and sensor data collection from multiple modes and sources.
Potential contractors will perform R&D support as well as integration, test and evaluation services to AFRL to support the deployment of “unconventional computing architectures” for command, control, communications, computers, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance applications.
AFRL noted that it intends to leverage next-generation modular computing systems driven by emerging technology platforms in an effort to optimize Air Force systems that are constrained by size, weight and power limitations.
The branch plans to issue other transaction agreements or various contracting instruments for individual awards valued at between $1 million and $3 million. Interested parties can submit white papers through Sept. 30, 2023.
