Richard Grenell
Richard Grenell, acting director of national intelligence, wrote a letter to Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.), chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, in response to the lawmaker’s question over his legal authority to reorganize the Office of the DNI and the National Counterterrorism Center, The Washington Times reported Tuesday.
“I must disagree with your proposals to divest the DNI of managerial competence and personnel decision-making authority, and to replace your committee’s mandate for Intelligence Community (IC) oversight with a mandate for IC administration,” Grenell wrote in a letter dated Monday.
Grenell also responded to Schiff’s criticism of leadership changes at NCTC, saying the lawmaker failed to recognize the appointment of two female leaders to acting director and deputy chief roles at the center.
“Diversity of the IC workforce should always be celebrated, and I am proud that we increased diversity within the ODNI’s senior ranks, to include more women and members of the LGBT community,” according to the letter obtained by the publication.
