State Department Approves Australia’s Potential $705M M142 HIMARS FMS Request

    The Department of State has approved a potential $705 million foreign military sale of M142 High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems and related equipment to Australia. Lockheed Martin, L3Harris, Leonardo DRS and Oshkosh will be the principal contractors.

    Scope of the Potential FMS Deal

    The Defense Security Cooperation Agency said Tuesday that Australia has requested to acquire 48 M142 HIMARS launchers along with non-MDE items such as M1084A2 HIMARS resupply vehicles, M1095 trailers, Low-Cost Reduced-Range Practice Rocket pods, intercom systems, radio and communication mounts, spare parts and services. The request includes U.S. government and contractor engineering, technical and logistics support services, studies, surveys, and other related logistics and program support elements.

    Reinforcing Australia’s Defense Capabilities

    Through the FMS request, Australia aims to enhance its homeland defense and protect vital infrastructure against existing and emerging threats while reinforcing interoperability with U.S. and allied militaries.

    DSCA has notified Congress of the potential sale.
