Martell will bring over two decades of experience in both the government and private sectors, including at the Department of Defense and commercial technology organizations, Lockheed Martin said Monday.
Craig Martell’s Career Highlights
He will join Lockheed from Cohesity, where he served as chief artificial intelligence officer responsible for the strategic integration and development of emerging technologies, including AI and machine learning, to protect, secure and provide insights into data.
Before his tenure at Cohesity, he was appointed as the DOD’s inaugural chief digital and AI officer. Martell also held leadership roles in the AI and machine learning fields at companies Lyft, Dropbox and LinkedIn.
The executive earned a doctorate in computer and information sciences from the University of Pennsylvania in 2005.
Martell’s Wash100 Awards
Craig Martell received Wash100 awards in 2023 and 2024 in recognition of his stance and efforts to ensure that artificial intelligence is used responsibly and within the ethical bounds of U.S. law. During his time as CDAO, Martell urged the U.S. government to improve data labeling capabilities to enhance pattern recognition in AI and machine learning systems. He said increased data collection, analysis and labeling will be imperative in overtaking China in the competition for AI.
The Wash100 Award is the longest-running recognition of current and future success in the government contracting industry.
