The Department of Defense said Friday the Army Rapid Capabilities and Critical Technologies Office at Redstone Arsenal in Alabama is funding the cost-plus-fixed-fee, firm-fixed-price contract using the service’s fiscal 2025 missile procurement funds, fiscal 2025 foreign military sales funds and fiscal 2024 cooperative partner funds.
Upgrades to the launchers include new engines, new improved armored cabs, improved system components, upgraded transmissions and new common fire control systems. These upgrades will enable the launcher to fire next-generation munitions, including Precision Strike Missile and Extended-Range Guided Multiple Launch Rocket System.
MLRS is a highly mobile automatic platform that can fire surface-to-surface rockets from the M270 family of launcher weapons systems. It employs a shoot-and-scoot capability designed to improve crew and platform survivability in high threat environments.
